A day at the Children's Museum

Today Zach and I met Mommy Marie and her son Joshua for a play date at the children's museum in St. Paul. For those of you who may have forgotten, Joshua and Zachary are only 5 days apart - Mommy Megan and Mommy Marie were pregnant at the same time. 

We started out our day with a visit to McDonald's eating chicken McNuggets, French fries, peaches, carrots, and milk.  Num! Joshua liked to dunk his McNuggets in his applesauce! Isn't that cute? I thought so!

After lunch we walked through the skyway to the Children's museum. We started our day at the museum at Habitot. Habitot consists of "four tot-friendly Minnesota 'habitots' including a prairie, cave, pond and forest."  It's a world created just for toddlers and infants to explore and have fun.  "There are fabric flowers for picking, mirrors for gazing, buttons for pushing; and peek-a-boo holes for exploring."  However for Zach and Joshua the first thing they were most excited about was the windows looking down onto the St. Paul streets below where they could see all the cars and trucks.

Marie found little costumes hanging in a tree for them to try on.  Zach wasn't so enthused with the beaver costume I put on him but Josh loved wearing the red bird wings.

Then it was time to leave Habitot and check out the World of Wonder - Ball-o-rama. Ball-o-rama is one of the traveling exhibits so this exhibit will only be here until Feb 1.  For Zach, a little boy who LOVES BALLS, this was a little piece of heaven I think. *giggle*  There were balls as big as Zach and little balls you could roll on tracks.  But for both Zach and Josh their favorite spot was the Tot Spot.  A little room with balls that they could throw and bounce and what Marie and I liked was that it was away from the bigger kids so we didn't have to worry about Josh or Zach getting run over by excited little kids.  There was also a wonderful bench where us mommies could sit and chat while the boys played.

Then it was time to go home.  They boys were so worn out from all the playtime that they were both sleeping before we each left the parking ramp to head home.   Well at least Zach was - I'm assuming Josh was too because he was just as tired as Zach.  If you would like to see more photos click on the "Our Photo Page" on the right side column.  Thanks for reading folks!

Netflix for TOYS?!

I was reading Cookie Magazine on my bus ride home from work last night and discovered that they have Netflix for TOYS!!  Yes REALLY!  It is called, BabyPlays.com I checked out the website this morning while at work and they have toys for kids from 0-3 mos, 3-6 mos, 6-9 mos, 9-12 mos, 12-18 mos, 18 mos-2 years, 2-3 years, and 3-5 years.  For each age range they have a nice selection and variety of toys.  How does it work?  Essentially like Netflix - you select a predetermined amount of toys you would like to receive per month, add those toys to your wishlist, Baby Plays sends the toys to your home via FedEx,  your kids play with the toys for 30 or 60 days depending on the plan you choose.  (Just like netflix you can keep the toys longer if you wish with NO late fees!) When your kids are tired of the toys - you return them with the provided postage paid Fed Ex shipping label and drop off at any Fed Ex shipping location.  Once they receive the returned toys they send out the next shipment.

If your kids LOVE the toy you can purchase the toy from the company for 20% off retail cost. (Personally, I would shop around and see what the retail prices are first or check out a second hand shop - the toy your kid is playing with is used already afterall.)

I shared this with Dave last night and his first reaction was icky gross!  Used toys?!  My response was - they clean the toys and they do!  We've purchased toys through garage sales and second hand stores as well and I know for a fact the garage sale toys haven't been cleaned so technically this would be better. 

So are we going to try it out?  Well at $27.00 per month with a 6 month commitment for the cheapest plan not too sure. Part of me would like to try it - but at the same time it may be better to do a "toy exchange" with friends/family of kids the same age. I'm sure Dave could come up with some Excel grid to track whose toys are where and all we would need would be nifty labels. 

Well - that's all for today.  I need to finish eating my lunch and get back to work.
